Media

Freedom of the press is established in the Dominican Constitution and there is a Law for the Expression and Diffusion of Thought.

This are some of the morning papers which are edited in Santo Domingo: El Caribe, El Nuevo Diario, El Siglo, Hoy, Diario Libre and Listin Diario; and this some of the afternoon papers: La Nación, El Nacional and Ultima Hora.

At the national level, there are 235 AM and FM radio stations; 7 VHF and 14 UHF channels; as well as more than 60 channels, served through cable television, via satelite.

Telecommunications

ATT is the main international long distance carrier in the Dominican Republic through the Verizon (CODETEL), TRICOM and All American Cable.

Verizon (CODETEL) is the country’s leader in telecommunications industry, serving 120 cities and towns directly with more that 700 thousand telephone lines in service.

TRICOM is growing at a rapid pace by making available to the public the most advanced technologies in the field.  It has also developed a joint venture with Motorola. In the country ORANGE as well as CENTENNIAL have established a wide range of services as well.

The Dominican Republic, for the excellent quality of its telecommunications, ranks first in Latin America.  The country has permanent communication with any part of the world through the Internet, and by direct circuits with Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, England, Finland, France, Germany, Haiti, Hawaii, Holland, Honduras, Hong Kong, Italy, Jamaica, Korea, Norway, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Venezuela, the Virgin Islands, and the principal islands of the Lesser Antilles.
